Israel - How Can I help

"Trouble in the Middle East!" "Talks Resume" "Middle East Talks Break Off"

Ehud Olmert, Mahmoud Abbas, Hassan Nasrallah and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad–these are the names shaping the news of the Middle East today. As has been the case for the past decade and a half, Israel is involved in a " peace process." While the news is sometimes positive, more often than not, it is disheartening. The uncertainty in the region and the sudden outbursts of violence remain the defining features of the Middle East.

Israel was created in 1948 to be a Jewish homeland. Many viewed it, and still view it, as a refuge, a place where Jews would not have to fear anti-Semitic acts. Yet, in the very land where Jews seek freedom, they have had to live as victims of terror, at times afraid to ride buses, to go to the supermarket or even to get a slice of pizza, lest they become the next victims.

What the solution is, no one can say. The question of how to help Israel has been raised again and again. How can we, across the ocean, help bring peace to Israel? The solution lies in understanding that all of the Jewish people are a single unit, and that the actions of one (whether it be giving charity or helping a neighbor) impacts on the entirety of our people.

Here are some suggested ways to support Israel. We've also linked to a history of the State of Israel to provide further perspective
