The National Jewish Outreach Program's Great Shofar Blast-Off

Contest Rules

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Void Where Prohibited.

To Enter: Visit the National Jewish Outreach Program web site (www.njop.org), print and complete the entry form, and submit it along with your original videotape or DVD of your shofar blowing skills. You may also submit a video clip to shofar@njop.org. Tapes/DVDs/clips should include a sample of "tekiah," "shevarim," "teruah," "shevarim-teruah" and "tekiah gedolah" as well as the notes blown in standard order. Tapes/DVD/clips should be 3-5 minutes long and include your thoughts on the meaning of the shofar and its significance to you.

Entry forms are also available at participating synagogues and by calling 800-44-TORAH. Entries should be mailed to National Jewish Outreach Program, Great Shofar Blast Off, 989 Sixth Ave, 10th Floor, New York, NY 10018. Entries must be postmarked by August 31, 2005. Limit one entry per person. Multiple entries will invalidate the entrant. Please visit www.njop.org/Shofarservice.html for information about the tradition of blowing the shofar.

Eligibility: The contest is open to both amateur and professional shofar blowers, who are legal residents of the 50 United States. Employees and directors of the National Jewish Outreach Program and its advertising and promotional agencies, and their immediate families and members of their households, are not eligible for entry. All entrants must be able to travel to New York City for the contest finals which will take place some time between September 19-24, 2005. The Grand Prize winner may need to extend her/his stay by at least one day for additional media and publicity opportunities. If unable to travel during said time or participate in the finals, entrant will be disqualified and an alternate will be selected.

Prizes: Five finalists will receive round-trip coach airfare from a major gateway airport near their home, transportation between the airport and the hotel, and accommodations for two nights at a hotel in New York City selected by the National Jewish Outreach Program. Grand Prize winner may receive additional nights accommodations. For finalists who live within 100 miles of New York City, alternate transportation will be provided. One Grand Prize Winner will receive a trip for two to Israel, including round-trip coach airfare and accommodations for 7 nights at a hotel selected by the National Jewish Outreach Program. All expenses not specified herein, including but not limited to groceries, meals, transfer, taxes and gratuities, are the sole responsibility of the finalists and Grand Prize Winner.

Key Dates: The contest begins on July 18th 2005. Deadline for entry is August 31, 2005. Five finalists will be chosen on or about September 15, 2005; and the Grand Prize winner will be selected in a "Blast Off" on or about September 20, 2005 in New York City.

Terms and Conditions: The five finalists (subject to eligibility verification) and the Grand Prize Winner will be chosen by a panel of judges selected by the National Jewish Outreach Program, whose decisions will be final on all matters relating to this contest. Finalists will be notified by telephone or mail, and will be required to execute an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release and (where legal) a Publicity Release. The Grand Prize Winner will also need to make herself/himself available for media interviews if appropriate.

Finalists will be required to blow the shofar (all of the sounds from the video as well as the final 30 traditional sounds) in September 2005, at a venue in New York City selected by the National Jewish Outreach Program. Finalists may use their own shofar or one provided by the National Jewish Outreach Program. The Grand Prize Winner will be selected at that time.

Except where prohibited by law, the winner's entry and acceptance of the prize constitutes permission for the National Jewish Outreach Program to use winner's name, photograph, likeness, statements, video/DVD submission, biographical information, voice and city and state address in all forms of media without further compensation. Winner and entrants also agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the National Jewish Outreach Program and each of its officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents from and against any claims, damages or liability due to any injuries, damages, or losses to any person (including death) or property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of any prize or participation in any contest-related activity or participation in this contest.
