The
Program
The National Jewish Outreach Program is pleased to introduce
the twelfth annual "Shabbat Across America/Canada." Through
an historic display of national unity and Ahavat Yisrael,
it hopes to make certain that every North American Jew is
invited to celebrate Shabbat on Friday night, March 7,
2008.
"Shabbat Across America/Canada" is a cross-continental,
quarter-million-dollar marketing and advertising campaign,
designed to appeal to unaffiliated and marginally-affiliated
North American Jews so they may experience the joys of Shabbat,
many for the first time!
How does it work? NJOP will provide your synagogue, temple
or center with all the materials needed to welcome newcomers
to your congregation or organization, and introduce both
unaffiliated Jews and your own uninvolved members to the
beauty of Shabbat! The program begins with an abridged Friday
night Beginners Service, followed by a sumptuous Shabbat
meal, singing, dancing, and explanations of the Friday night
Shabbat rituals. Congregations provide their own catering
and generally charge $15-$20 per person. And, since NJOP will
be once again mounting an extensive PR and advertising campaign
- your local recruitment is made significantly easier!
How can you be sure it will work? Since its first auspicious
year, "Shabbat Across America/Canada" has introduced over half a million
Jews to Shabbat in close to 2,000 locations.
How can you find out more? Or better yet, how can you sign
up today? Just complete the attached Registration Form,
or simply call your Regional Program Coordinator, at 1-800-666-SHABBAT!
Once you agree with the program requirements, NJOP will
send you "The Handbook," (a 21page user-friendly guide,
which walks you through the event - step by step - from
registration through follow-up), extensive publicity materials,
and other user-friendly resources -- Absolutely FREE!

What
NJOP requires of you:
1.
Although NJOP expects and even encourages your organization
to be creative with the SAA/C program, a kosher dinner must
be included as part of the program. Why? Well, we feel the
dinner is an integral part of the Friday night Shabbat experience
-- it's where friends and families, neighbors and newcomers,
can sit together and share the warm taste of Shabbat.
2.
We expect that you take the names and addresses of all participants
so that:
A) You can follow-up with them and invite them to another
outreach program.
B) NJOP can know exactly how many people attended, and collect
reliable documentation for our donors.
C) NJOP can send each participant a survey and follow-up
program listings.
D) You can be entered in NJOP's SAA/C survey contest to
win $250 toward your outreach programs.
3.
Although NJOP's marketing and advertising is extensive,
you must not rely on it to recruit participants. NJOP's
marketing serves ONLY to inform your community about the
event... each location must assume the responsibility of
inviting its local community participants! You will receive
a Publicity Packet to enhance your marketing endeavors.
4.
Please respond to our calls and/or mailings. We are here
to serve you.
